| Special Training Needs
Not everyone wants a personal trainer so that they can run a marathon
or become the world’s strongest or fittest. Regular exercise
can help the elderly and is also thought to help some long-term
illnesses.
Senior Citizens
Avril regularly leads “Exercise for the Elderly”
classes at Old Peoples’ Homes and Nursing Homes in Edinburgh
and the Lothians. The intensity of the class can be anything from
basic mobility of joints to lively exercise, depending on the age
and fitness of the attendees. Even the most basic of exercise can
make a huge difference to quality of life.
Avril can produce individual programmes to meet the needs of personal
clients in the over 60’s age group, as well.
Diabetics
Regular exercise can, in some cases, improve insulin sensitivity
meaning less medication may be required. It may also reduces the
risk of cardiovascular disease and can help in reducing body fat
which in some cases is all the treatment type II diabetics need.
High Blood Pressure
Some cases of High Blood Pressure can be reduced by regular exercise.
Osteoporosis
A well-designed programme of resistance exercises can help to build
bone density.

| Before you start any course of exercise, whether on
your own, or with Avril or with any other personal trainer or
fitness instructor, it is important that you check with your
G.P. if you are elderly or have any long term medical conditions.
If Avril is your personal trainer, these issues will be discussed
at your free initial consultation, before you do any training. |
